October 2020

So, it’s the end of October 2020, tomorrow is Halloween, and this month in Ontario saw COVID cases spike to record levels and brought about another set of lockdowns. Weddings in major areas have cancelled yet again because people continue to defy capacity regulations and have weddings that turn into superspreader events.

I shot a wedding with only 20 guests near the beginning of the month at a vineyard in Niagara and it was a really great time. I just love that couple. They’re a lot of fun. Really funny. Dream clients, really. I’m wrapping up their edits and they’ll have their images next week and I can’t wait to share them with them.

Beyond that, I’ve been working on this show, working on my commercial photography website, building out the blog for that site in the background, and tightening up my client experience. I’m also making some adjustments to my pricing. Weddings are going up a bit for 2021 and headshots are coming down a bit right away.

I raised my headshot prices a bit at the beginning of October and inquiries have disappeared. I know that page has had more than 150 page views in the page month, so I’m going to drop the price back down to September’s level to see how that affects lead volume. I also put the booking form right onto the page so people could book me without having to email me first, so that could also be a factor. I won’t know unless I test it out, and right now is a great time to test it out.

Yes, I’m lowering prices. Shock! Gasp! I very briefly talked about how to use pricing as a volume dial back in episode 16 and I’m going to go more in-depth on that in an episode I currently have in the works. Feel free to read up on profit maximization, or wait until I break it down into simple terms without all the super boring neoclassical economics bullshit.

Some of you have mentioned to me how much you loved the pricing episode and were hoping I would go into more detail on that this past month. Honestly, I was going to, but that series on SEO came out of nowhere when I was writing episode on maximizing your blog which ended up turning into a two-part series on simple SEO plus a four-part series on how to optimize your blog. I hope you got a lot out of that series. I had a great time making it.

If you’re enjoying this show, please take a quick minute to share it with a colleague, your Facebook community, or leave us a review at one or all of the links in the show notes. I would also love to hear from you personally. You can send a voicemail directly through our website. Ask me a question, send me ideas about future episodes, or just tell me why you love the show. I may even share your clip on a future episode.
